Indexing Rates

Rates for indexing projects can range from $3 to $8 per indexable page. This is influenced by a number of factors:

• type of book (trade, technical, reference)
• subject matter
• audience for the text
• complexity of the material

When you contact me, please provide the following information:

• general description of the book: what it's about, who is going to read it
• the number of pages
• the date I will receive the page proofs
• the date the index is to be sent to you
• publisher's style guide or any other formatting concerns

Each project is unique and the rate will depend on the characteristics of your particular project. I will generally request sample pages to determine an accurate rate.

Once we have discussed your project and I have gone over the sample pages, I will give you a quote. When we have agreed on the terms of the project, you will be sent confirmation, setting out fees, style requirements, and the time schedule. Authors will be required to pay 50% of the estimated fee at the time I receive the page proofs.

Proofreading Rates

Proofreading rates are in the range of $2 to $4 per page. This is dependent on the complexity and density of the proofs.
